I made another discovery in Ephesians 5 last Sunday. My last post was about how Christ loved the church and gave Himself for it. That was verse 25. The next verse tells us why: “That [or, In order that] He might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the Word, [in order that] He might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that it should be holy and without blemish.”
That’s a great passage. But again, following along in my Biblia Sacra, I noticed something new: The verb for “cleanse” in verse 26? It’s an aorist. Past time. Completed action.
